Long prayers
by fulano indid you have one or two brother with way too long prayers in your congregation?
when i was a child we had a brother who would go on and on after the watchtower study for at least five minutes.
many elderly sisters just sat down and a lot were complaining after the long desired amen..

did anyone else hear the story about a thing at the UK headquarters--in the 60's. if my memory is right--it was told to me by Bevan Vigo ( are you reading this Bev ?) ;
meal time--everyone is ready to start--up gets the bro who was assigned to say " grace ". on and on he went--with his eyes closed. when he finally said amen--he opened his eyes--and saw everyone else had finished their meal.

the funniest thing i saw was...
not a prayer--but a short talk in the ministry school thing.
one particular afro-caribbean bro was very fond of over-running any talks he was given.
so--this particular evening--at the end of his 5 minutes--the bell sounded--but he carried on regardless, so--2 bell rings--still he carried on. at this point 2 bros got up on the stage--either side of him--took an arm each and frog marched him off the stage ( this had been pre arranged of course---but the bro and the audience weren't in on it )
yet--he still carried on with his delivery ! the audience were in stitches.
fortunately--the bro took it in good part. in fact--he was a truly lovely guy.
all this was 50 years ago.

30 years after leaving utterly unrecognisable
by Number 6 inthis is the first time i have posted on here in many years..... i seldom visit now although this forum was instrumental to me in gaining my sanity in the early 2000's and recovering from the watchtower religion.. by chance tonight i was on youtube and caught a jw.org video which out of curiosity prompted me to look at the official website and amongst other things i looked up the music section.. why that i hear you ask?
music is my passion and nothing reminds me more or evokes more memories than the kingdom songs i grew up listening to.. i am 49 years old and my mother was baptised in 1974. i grew up in the era of pink songbooks and green bibles.
of the theology of fred franz and types and anti-types.

it looks like the areas of empty seats is deliberate--maybe to segregate different nationalities attending, just in case a war breaks out again.

Jehovah, Jehovah, Jehovah
by Sour Grapes inmy pimi wife listens to a lot of the meetings on the phone with the speaker on.
when i am watching tv i hear the meetings in the background.
i just cringe with how a witless can't give a comment without having said jehovah at least two times.

this shunning business is now the watchtower cult's main control method. i simply cant believe many dubs still believe armageddon will happen any time soon--so they will die sooner or later. hence that is no real and immediate threat. but losing family / friends is.

Something I just realized!
by Nikki collins innow that i'm out if i ever do find someone and settle down and start a family, my parents wont be a part of it.
my dad wont walk me down the isle if i get married, if i have kids they wont know their grandparents.
oh and by the way i had my freaking tubes tied so as not to have kids in this system.

in my case my jw parents never shunned me. my dad said he couldnt find a scriptural precedence for it. they came to my second wedding--to a woman who was never a jw. we were all close. all 3 are now dead.
